      <image:title>Research Case Study - Westfield - The project</image:title>
      <image:caption>My company was about to embark on a multi-year, multi-million dollar project to reimagine the insurance quoting process for our independent agents. The research question The UX research team was tasked with determining the biggest issues with the current process, the biggest needs to be addressed with the new process, possible differentiators that would make agents choose our products over other carriers. My role My role in this project included performing research, analyzing research and creating reports and personas.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5d671d16b08d470001a2acc1/1601571000445-SO5V3OKYZKSQ73OW96SX/Process+Map.png</image:loc>
      <image:title>Research Case Study - Westfield - Methodology</image:title>
      <image:caption>Our team of 3 conducted qualitative research with 75 agents. This research was done in one hour blocks, in person or by phone, and alternated between interviews and process sketches. Process Sketching Process sketches were used to walk the user through the process of quoting insurance business, from the time they learn from their customer that a quote is needed through to issuance of the insurance policy. We were interested not only in determining the steps in the process, but also the communication methods that were used. We worked with the insurance agent, our template, and post its to map the process.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Research Case Study - Westfield - Data synthesis</image:title>
      <image:caption>When all of the interviews and process sketches were complete, each data point learned was entered into a database and tagged into one of 25 relevant data categories. Dimensions Analysis These data categories were then sorted into characteristics in which our users differed from each other. Data points were plotted on dimensions based on these characteristics, and personas were developed based on the characteristics that occurred together most frequenlty.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Research Case Study - Westfield - Insights</image:title>
      <image:caption>Once the data points were plotted on differing characteristics, emerging patterns led to the development of 6 different personas. When beginning research, we theorized that our personas would be role based, following the role of an individual at their agency. But our research determined that in fact, the differences in our users were not based on role, but mostly based on their ways of working and the type of work environment that they were comfortable in (multi-tasking in a busy office versus one quote at a time in a one person agency, for example). This made a great difference in how we would design for ease of use.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Usability Study - Methodology</image:title>
      <image:caption>We created a prototype of the new home page and linked that prototype to the current intranet content. The testing was conducted in person with 18 participants. Sessions were recorded using Morae usabilty testing and recording software. Each particiant was asked to complete 10 common tasks that were generally performed on the site, and then asked their general feelings on the approach. The last question was how the participants perceived the process was working, in order to determine their mental model.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Usability Study - The project</image:title>
      <image:caption>My company was working on a redesign of a 10+ year old intranet. The approach that was being proposed was to reskin the home page while keeping all content, structure and design the same below the home page. The Research Question Our team had serious concerns that this would cause issues for our users from a findability and usability perspective. We proposed and got buy in for usability testing on a prototype of the site in order to determine if the proposed structure would be an acceptable solution. My role As the sole User Experience professional on the Intranet redesign team, I proposed, conducted, synthesized and reported on the usability testing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Usability Study - Insights</image:title>
      <image:caption>Our users loved the new home page design, but as suspected, were very confused by the connection to the current system. Many questioned whether this was simply for the test, and not the way the system would work or look once in place. The real win for this testing was recording the sessions and having permission from our users to share the recordings. Embedding clips of these recordings into our findings presentation for leadership sealed the decision to jump into the project headfirst and take on the complete redesign versus the simple reskin project.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Information Architecture - The project</image:title>
      <image:caption>My company was in the early stages of redesign of our main company web site after a major rebranding effort. The Research Question The site design and structure hadn’t been updated in over a decade. Content needed to be weeded, rebranded, and restructured for usability and findability. The site was also moving from one with no search functionality to having search, making content tagging necessary as well. My role On this project, I was responsible for research and imlementation of information architecture changes and content mangement.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Information Architecture - Tree Testing</image:title>
      <image:caption>Three times throughout the process, we tree tested our Information Architecture using Optimal Workshop’s TreeJack software and using the results to modify our architecture to meet the nees of the users.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Information Architecture - Methodology</image:title>
      <image:caption>Content Inventory A content inventory was performed on the current site, and meetings were held with business subject matter experts from each of the different areas to rank the importance of each piece of content and the rebranding effort for those pieces of content that would definitely be moving in the initial release. Do-Go Mapping At the same time, a do-go map was being created to help determine the structure of the new site based on our business objectives and our previously created personas for our different user types.</image:caption>

    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5d671d16b08d470001a2acc1/1569205606749-YSTOYXTCDQ92RAX3V9AP/IA+Structure+revised+02072018.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Information Architecture</image:title>
      <image:caption>Results and Insights Site structure was revised, though not dramatically changed from the initial site. We learned that the exercise will sometimes show you that your general structure is sound and simply needs tweaks. Content was initially pared to approximately half the amount of pages, and content was all updated for the new brand. Search has performed quite well on the site and all content was tagged for search optimization as well as Search Engine Optimization.</image:caption>
